A new left is arriving...
For years in the developed world, Europe and the United States, neoliberalism has dominated. A theory for society and the economy was applied to practice which led to the current global crisis of capitalism. It is the doctrine of market liberalization, banks dominance, countries and household perpetual borrowing, escalating debt, fictitious capital creation, namely incessant bond heap that in reality do not correspond to any tangible value.
Neoliberalism is the crisis’ modern capitalism and not only one of its forms. The worst is that this capitalism is attempting to "heal" using the means that created it. With free markets, leading banks, state and household in debt continuing to be a huge investment for the markets "vultures", with citizens hungry and not fictitiously wealthy.
The recipe of neoliberalism that led to the crisis finds its most obsessive application, as a remedy against the crisis in a united Europe, particularly in the eurozone through/via its German hegemony. Southern Europe and especially Greece has met, paid for and continues to pay the price for this recipe. And this is one of the main reasons that gave rise to SYRIZA and established it from a small to a large and governmental power. The same cause gave birth to the movement of Podemos (We Can) in Spain, searches for a new Left movement across Europe and the recent left shift of the British Labour Party and the election of Jeremy Corbyn to leadership.
Of course we are in the beginning. But it is certain that the edifice of neoliberalism in Europe has serious flaws while the need for another proposal for the European Union is more than imperative. Fortunately the cracks are being caused by this new Left rather than the so-called Eurosceptic reactionary forces. Modern reformist and radical Left is the only force that can bring back the popular forces in the limelight and challenge the hegemony of neoliberalism in Europe.
